Their sorrows shall be multiplied who hasten after another god; Their drink offerings of blood I will not offer, Nor take up their names on my lips.

Good morning and welcome to praying the Bible. We're gonna do something a little bit different today, at least I'm going to try this. I'm going to pray through the rest of Psalm 16 and then go back with some edits on that, something that's something I haven't done with this so far up to this point. I simply turn on the camera, pray, and then turn it off. And we're gonna try this because what I want to do is make this a bit more natural perhaps in the way that the prayer actually unfolds. And rather than stop, we'll just keep on going and then each day we'll have a section of it. We'll see how this works. Now this is Psalm 16. We went through verse 3 last time, but I want to read the entire Psalm, which is 11 verses, not too long, and then we'll come back beginning with the verse 4 and pray through the rest of the Psalm. So Psalm 16, Preserve me, O God, for in you I put my trust. O my soul, you have said to the Lord, you are my Lord. My goodness is nothing apart from you. As for the saints who are on the earth, they are the excellent ones in whom is all my delight. Their sorrows shall be multiplied who hasten after another God. Their drink offerings of blood I will not offer, nor take up their names on my lips. O Lord, you're the portion of my inheritance in my cup. You maintain my lot. The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places. Yes, I have a good inheritance. I will bless the Lord who has given me counsel. My heart also instructs me in the night seasons. I have set the Lord always before me, because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices. My flesh also will rest in hope, for you will not leave my soul in Sheol, nor will you allow your Holy One to see corruption. You will show me the path of life, and your presence is fullness of joy, and at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Heavenly Father, we acknowledge you as the one true God, and Lord we also acknowledge that those who hasten after other gods, and in this day and age those other gods are typically self, that a person worships self, and Lord I ask that you would keep us, keep me, keep each of us who are praying this morning from putting ourselves on the throne, Lord God. Lord we will not offer the offerings of those who worship self, who worship some other God, Lord. We don't think about drink offerings of blood, but Lord God, the giving of our life, that's really what we're talking about, because life is in the blood, and that was the whole point of the blood sacrifice. But Lord, do we give our life to you? Are we doing all things as unto the Lord, or do we put ourselves first? Do we put our own desires, Lord God? Do we put our own purposes? Lord it is so easy, and I ask that you'd forgive me for those many times that I've put myself before you, put myself before others, put myself in a position of preeminence, Lord God. I pray that we would not take up the names of these false gods on our lips, we would not put ourselves into a position of praise, we would not think of ourselves, Lord God, as as the one who deserves acclamation, Lord, that we would not look to any leader, political leader, even a church leader, a spiritual leader, and put them on a pedestal, Lord God, and look to them instead of you. Lord, may we be 100% focused on you and upon you, Lord Jesus, as our Lord, our King, our Savior, the one who loves us so deeply that you gave your life for us, Lord God.
