This Sunday is Christmas Eve and we have a Christmas Eve service here at our church every year on Christmas Eve We actually have two of them. We try to make our services as convenient for the people We're trying to reach as it is convenient for us So we've learned if we do a couple of Christmas Eve services People can come to worship and then also have their family activities and those type of things So at the end of our Christmas Eve service every single year, we sing the same hymn. We sing silent night We turn off the lights in here all with some of these behind me. I'll stay on the Christmas lights But the house lights will come down We have our advent candles will light. I'll light my candle off the Christ candle We'll go around and our sanctuary will be full of people holding up their light in the darkness symbolizing Jesus as the light in the darkness not our church Not any particular pastor not the church necessarily It's Jesus as the light in the darkness now the church is to reflect Jesus in the darkness The Jesus is the light in the darkness and I love this third stanza in Silent night because of what it says about Jesus here. It says silent night Holy Night Son of God loves pure light radiant beams from thy holy face with the dawn of redeeming grace Jesus Lord at thy birth Jesus Lord at thy birth Well, that's a lot in one stanza right there about the person of Jesus It says that he is these he is the Son of God loves pure light that Jesus is the dawn of redeeming grace and Jesus is Lord at his birth When we think through that and we really come to understand that That's why I really hope that our time on Christmas Eve. It is a time of celebration It is a time of smiling and laughter and loving being together and all the things of the holiday That's a blessing from God But it all centers around the fact That Jesus was Lord at his birth That he is the dawn of redeeming meaning rescuing grace for us May that always be the center of what we do during the Christmas season and I hope and pray for you that the center of all of your activities this Christmas season is that dawn of redeeming grace That Jesus who was Lord at his birth Came into the world to redeem us to rescue us to purchase us from our own sin And as the old theological statement says that the great exchange He exchanges our sin and shame and he takes it on the cross To give us forgiveness and grace and purpose and meaning so man. I hope you live in that today I hope that encourages you today if I can pray for you in any way if there's anything that I can do for you Please shoot me a message. Let me know God bless and have a great Christmas You
