Good morning and here we are thinking about the Bible. I was thinking about, as we were talking in the episode that was aired yesterday, about the trip to Bethlehem with Joseph and Mary. I was thinking about Joseph and the kind of man he had to be. There's not much in the Scripture about Joseph at all actually, very little, but we do know he was a righteous man. We do know that he was someone who also was compassionate. Remember in the situation when he found out that Mary was pregnant and he wasn't the father, he was thinking about putting her away, they were betrothed at that time, putting her away quietly so as not to bring attention to the circumstance. According to the law he could have had her executed, stoned, but probably at that point in time in the history of the people of Israel under Roman rule they didn't have that option anyway, but they he could have thought about ways to humiliate her as a punishment. He didn't do that. Instead he was going to do the right thing, the righteous thing, and end the relationship, but do so quietly. So he's a righteous man, a compassionate man, and obviously also when necessary a man of action. As he took Mary and the new child, the toddler Jesus, to Egypt to flee from Herod and then of course came back. So he was someone that that God had chosen for this purpose and was given the character qualities that were necessary, this compassion, this righteousness, this action. I'm sure he was the whole package so to speak, someone who would be a perfect foster father for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. So as you think about this Christmas season, don't forget to think about Joseph. Don't know much about him, but we do know that he was the man that God had chosen to be the one who would be the earthly father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and you cannot imagine, I can't, what an important position that would be, what that would be like. So think about Joseph as you think about Christmas this year. God bless you. We'll see you next time.
