Then he said to him, “Follow me!” 20 Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said, “Lord, who is going to betray you?”) 21 When Peter saw him, he asked, “Lord, what about him?” 22 Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.” John 21:19-22 Jesus rejects comparison to one another. He simply asks, "follow me." "Do something with what I've given you." 19 “After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. 20 The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.’ 21 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ 22 “The man with two bags of gold also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.’ 23 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ Matthew 25:19-23 Jesus wants us to live our lives in servitude to him and steward the things that we DO have as best as we can. I've found that no matter what I think of myself in comparison to others, when I give my whole self to God he has done much more in my life than I could have hoped otherwise. REFLECT Where have you let comparison creep into your life? Either at work, your family life, or even at church? PRAY Sit with the Lord as you consider the truths in these passages. What is the Lord speaking to you?
