It’s Not Yours - Introduction to Stewardship

👇💥 FULL DEVO BELOW💥👇 Have you ever taken care of something for someone else? Maybe house-sitting or dog-sitting? Or perhaps you have had the kind of job that puts you directly in a care-taker role; babysitter, teacher, camp counselor, maybe even lawncare/landscaping, house cleaning. Or someone has said, here this is mine, I want you to hold onto it for a while... Why Stewardship? 1. I see it in scripture...I’m always starting here, I'm always wanting to know, where do we see it in the Word of God. If its not there, lets rethink. If it is there, we need to take it seriously. I see it Genesis, I see it in Jesus' parables, and if I begin to really think of the concept stewardship, we see it applied to every area of our life - money, all of our things, relationships, Christian community - and we see this throughout the New Testament. 2. The concept of has a lot for us, especially as Americans, today. The concept of stewardship helps us reorder and prioritize and to ultimately bring true satisfaction. REFLECT When was a time in your life you were given the responsibility to take care of something else for someone else? Do you approach the relationships in your life and the stuff you have as an owner or a steward? PRAY Ask God to meet with you today. Ask God to open your heart to whatever he has for you in this day.

I want you to think of a time that you were given the responsibility to care for something. Something that was not yours. What was that like? This idea of stewardship is not unique. If you think of something that maybe someone that you thought of like this is theirs but they said to you I want you to to watch over this for a while. Maybe it was house sitting or dog sitting or any kind of sitting, babysitting, whatever. I don't know. Or maybe you did landscaping for a while and you would go to people's homes and you would take care of their space, right? House cleaning is very similar. What was it for you? Maybe a camp counselor. You watched over people's kids. Teachers, right? They do this every day. This is the idea of stewardship that there is something that it's entrusted to you that's not yours that you are taking care of for some time. I love this idea of stewardship and I think it actually has a lot to teach us as American Christians in particular. I see it all over scripture and and honestly if if I didn't see it in scripture then we would have to really rethink this. This is always part of the way that I approach ideas or concepts or things that people come up with. Is it in scripture? Well, if it's not, we need to rethink it. If it is, then we need to really take it seriously. And I think, like I said, we have a lot to learn from this. So before we jump into scripture, we're gonna start in Genesis. We'll be taking a look at Jesus's parables and then as we get into it you'll see that this idea, this concept, is all over scripture. So I'm excited to go on this journey with you. I hope you can tune in every day. Before we go, I want you to reflect on a couple things. First, when was the time in your life that you were given the responsibility to care for something that was not yours, that maybe was even precious to someone else? And then also, I want you to think about how do you approach the relationships in your life or the relationship to your things? Do you replace, do you approach it as an owner or as a steward? Maybe even just wrestle with those terms. Okay. God bless you.
