In John chapter 5 verse 19, Jesus is speaking and he says, very truly I tell you, the son can do nothing by himself. He can only do what he sees his father doing. Because whatever the father does, the son also does. And I love this moment that Jesus is having because it's a bit subtle, but he's actually relating to the people at the time on a human level. We know that Jesus is 100% God and he's also 100% man. He's a human and he's relating on a human level by saying, hey you have a father, you know what a father is and you imitate your father. I do too. I'm also human. I have a heavenly father and I imitate my heavenly father. And I was thinking about times in life where I've done that, right? That growing up I remember wanting to shave and shave like my dad. So I had my fake razor and I'd stand in the mirror with him and shave my face or I'd put on his boots, right? They're always 10 times too big and I'd try and walk around the house because I wanted to be like my dad. I wanted to imitate him, do the things he did, love the things that he did. And we see that throughout Jesus's life, right? How he is imitating his father. We see that he lives and gives correction and rebuke at times like his father. We see that he lives with love and compassion and mercy like his father. He's imitating his father. And as followers of Jesus, that's the life that we're called to live as well. That's the life that we get to live. As we imitate Jesus, we're also imitating our heavenly father. And the key in this as well is that in order to imitate someone, you have to know them, right? You have to know how they walk, how they talk, how they speak, how they act, how they live. And thankfully God has given us everything we need through his word and through the power of his spirit to be able to know Jesus and to know the things of God and to then be able to imitate Jesus and imitate our heavenly father. And so I want to encourage you with that today. Just as Jesus imitated his father, let us get into his word and let us pray and ask, say, God, how might I imitate you today? How might I imitate Jesus today? Because he was called to live that way and we are as well. And so I want to encourage you with that today to get in your word and ask, God, how might I imitate you? And how might I imitate my heavenly father in a way that brings him glory, that brings him honor, that brings him praise? And so I pray that that encourages you today and I hope that you all have a blessed day.
