Faithbase

Hello, sweet friends. So a quick thought for you today on our thought life, our brains and the thoughts running through our heads. So I am in a pretty busy season as we all are getting prepared for the holidays. I'm actually on my way to the dollar store to buy more Christmas decorations because today was the day that I had decided would be a good time to decorate for Christmas before the kids get home from for Thanksgiving break and I want to just be able to celebrate and enjoy and I've honestly been struggling a lot lately with an over full brain. So it's the end of a busy semester for me as a student, the end of a busy semester for me as a TA, a lot of grading to do, a busy season as a mom with two littles preparing for the holidays and presents to buy and things to prepare for and I want to get decorated. I want to get all the things done so that I can just focus and be present in the holiday season and I am straight up struggling. My brain, I feel like my mind is on not just on a treadmill but on five treadmills at the same time. I have thousands of thoughts flying through my brain to the to the point that the other day I just started trying to write it down and then I couldn't write it down enough and then yeah, I don't know if any of you can relate to that, but I was reading today and I got to 2 Corinthians 10 5 which says we destroy every thought and law every yeah every art we destroy every argument and lofty opinion against the knowledge of God as we captivate our thoughts to obey Christ Jesus now the words obey and destroy sometimes sounds so strong to me that I think immediately I'm doing something wrong but all of that all that verse is telling us to do is to remember the knowledge of God who is God what does he care about what does he say about us hold every single thought that we have captive I heard one Christian author say once that she imagined like binding the thought with a rope she said that word pictures really really help her and so the image of tying a thought within a rope holding it bound and holding it up to the truth of scripture that is and then we say okay you know what I have the power within me to say I'm throwing this thought out it's going in the garbage because it does not count it's not real it's a lie and destroying it and then only focusing in on what is left which is the truth and peace of Christ Jesus and I know that we're all still gonna have thoughts I know that we're all gonna still be busy but when the busyness comes and we start to feel the overwhelm I pause I think about the overwhelm and I have this to do and I'm not gonna get it done no no no wrap it up right now because it's Christmas season I'm gonna just imagine it with a little bow on it because that just sounds fun doesn't it and I'm gonna hold that little present up in light of scripture and when I realized that I need I don't I don't need to have that done you know what it's gonna be okay if the Christmas decorations don't happen before Thanksgiving it's gonna be okay if I do end up buying a present at the last minute it's gonna be okay if I focus in on what the task in front of me has right this second what is Christ want me to be focusing in on this second focus on that take that other thought the other to do the other busy thought captive hold it up against scripture and say this isn't necessary if it's something that I really need to remember if there's something that I really need to get done I'm gonna remember it's gonna be okay some things jot it down on a to-do list but then let it live there take all the other thoughts all the other busy overwhelming thoughts tie it up hold it up to the truth of scripture say this isn't real this isn't right I am a good mom I am a good wife I am a good decorator I am a good friend and thoughtful gift giver I am a good student a good Christian I am a good neighbor love y'all
