Before we move on from Hebrews 12, the the writer of Hebrews does something amazing in this verse that they encourage and then automatically turn around and do, and I want to point that out. It's worth really sitting on and meditating on today, so I hope you hear this. In Hebrews chapter 12 verse 1 and 2, they are saying we need to run our race. We see all these incredible people who have done these amazing things because of their faith in who God is and was, and they say in order for us to do that, we need to fix our eyes on Jesus. Then they say, for the joy set before him, before Jesus, he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. They say, fix your eyes on Jesus, and then they turn around and they reflect on and fix their gaze on who Jesus is, and this is amazing. When we turn our attention to who Jesus is, what he's done for us, one, it helps grow and enhance and perfect, in a way, our faith. Not make it perfect, like flawless, but to make it better, and it allows us to be free from sin that weighs us down and the things that entangle us and get us away from the race that we have been called to run. So, if you want to grow in your faith, if you want to see the result and the change in your life from your faith, fix your eyes on Jesus. Fix your eyes on him. This is the perfect season. I love the Christmas season because, whether people know it or not, half the songs that we sing at Christmastime are about him, and everyone sings them. They're on every Christmas radio station and show you could possibly sing every Christmas special. They have a song on there that's really just directly about Christ, and what better way for us in this season to fix our eyes on Jesus than to sing songs about him, songs that really point us directly to who he is and what he's done. So, friends, this season, I hope that you begin—this is a chance to really begin fixing your eyes on him, running the race set before you, and considering what he's done. Do that right now. Take 30 seconds, take five minutes, and just reflect on who Jesus is, and even just sit with this verse, because it was the joy set before Jesus that he endured the cross, and he scorned the shame of the cross, and he sat down at the right hand of the Father, and that's where he sits today.
