Welcome back to Praying the Bible. We're going to complete Psalm 5 today, verses 11 and 12. Let all those rejoice who put their trust in you. Let them ever shout for joy, because you defend them. Let those also who love your name be joyful in you, for you, O Lord, will bless the righteous. With favor you will surround him as with a shield. Gracious Heavenly Father, this is another one of the wonderful statements in Scripture that we turn to. We rejoice because we put our trust in you. We rejoice and we rest and we have great joy as we place faith in Jesus Christ, Lord God. We know that there is no other name under heaven by which men might be saved except the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We shout for joy, Lord God, because you defend us. You have defended us from the enemy. You have ransomed us from the consequence of sin that we are now no longer condemned to death, Lord God. We are going to continually rejoice because we trust in you. You defend us. Let all those who love your name, which Lord we love the name of Jesus. We love Yahweh our God. We are joyful in you, Lord. We have prayed through a psalm that is reminding us of the degradation of mankind and all the horrible things that they do, and your view of that is disgust. You hate those who are lawless. You despise the bloodthirsty and deceitful. And Lord, all those things, as we think about that and pray about that, can bring us down. But Lord, we turn now at the end of the psalm to joy. The joy of your salvation. Joy because we trust in you. Joy because you defend us. Joyful in you because we love your name. For you, Lord, will bless the righteous. Your covenant blessings are promised to us. We are in Jesus Christ and so we are Abraham, heirs of Abraham and heirs according to the promise Lord God. All the things that you promise your people are available to us in Jesus Christ. You bless us. You bless us because we are deemed righteous in Jesus Christ. And you surround us with favor as with a shield. Lord, that doesn't mean that all the bad things in life will pass us by. It means that even in the midst of the hardship, we can stand firm. Just as Jesus told us that if we do what he teaches, we will be like that house that's built on a solid foundation so that when the storms rise and crash against that house, it stands firm, Lord God. The storms don't pass us by. We wish they would and sometimes you do bless us that way. But generally speaking, Lord God, the blessing, the shield that you put up, is something that shields us from the unfavorable consequences of a storm in life. So Lord God, we pray for your blessings. We ask you bless us, that you surround us with your favor, that you will give us joy, that we will know that we can trust in you in all things and that you are the good and gracious God. No matter what is going on in this world, we know that you are in control and that we can have joy in your salvation. We pray your blessings upon us. We pray this in Jesus' name, Amen.
