Would you say you're good at self-control? If I put two cookies in front of you and said I'll be back in an hour and if you don't touch those cookies I'll give you four, would you pass or would you fail that experiment? Right, this idea is a silly one but the notion of self-control is probably one of the most important spiritual disciplines that we can develop in our lives. The idea of being able to say no to the things that are bad for us and no even to the things that might be good for us so that way we instead can say yes to the things that God has for us because we know those are best. Now we know very clearly that there's a bunch of things that we shouldn't do, right? You know if you've been, you know, religious for any amount of time, right? You know, don't do drugs, don't cheat on your spouse, don't hit people, don't murder, try to, you know, not get addicted to anything whether that's substances, pornography, whatever it is, right? But I'm more interested in the conversation of being disciplined enough, self-disciplined enough to be able to trade good for best. Far too often we settle for what we settle for less than what God would have for us, right? Because we choose safety, comfort, familiarity, whatever it might be over the adventure that God wants to take us on in terms of the faithfulness and what it would look like to be able to see him move in new exciting and possibly scary ways that might actually cost us something, right? So my encouragement for you as we kind of round out this series is this idea of being able to know and understand that there's value in being able to sell and spot the difference between good and bad. But the mark of discipline, right? The mark of maturity as a believer is being able to spot good from best. As always, if you want to talk about it more, shoot me a DM or if you have any questions or prayer requests, let me know and let's talk.
