Faithbase

Good morning and welcome to this edition of Praying the Bible, and we're going to finish up Psalm 3 today, verses 5 through 8. Let me read that section to you. I lay down and slept, I awoke, for the Lord sustained me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around. Arise, O Lord, save me, O my God, for you have struck all my enemies on the cheekbone, you have broken the teeth of the ungodly. Salvation belongs to the Lord. Your blessing is upon your people. Selah. Remember, of course, this is the Psalm of David when he fled from Absalom, his son. Heavenly Father, we thank you that we can rest in quietness and peace, Lord God, that we know you are in charge of all things and that you, Lord God, shall watch over us at all times. Lord, you do not promise us a cessation of trouble, you do not promise us freedom from harm of any sort, but you do promise that we will be in your hand, that no one can snatch us from your hand, Lord God. We thank you that Jesus Christ has been willing to die to secure that blessing of security, to give us that blessing of covenant relationship, Lord God. And just as a psalmist, even though David was in the midst of a difficulty, of a hardship, he was able to sleep peacefully and wake sustained by you, Lord God, knowing that you have uplifted him. And Lord, we pray that you uplift us throughout the daily trials and tribulations that we face. Lord, I pray that you will keep us unafraid, that we will be people of courage, men, women, and children of courage who are willing to stand for truth, are willing to always turn to you, Lord God, turn to the Scriptures for how we would live our life in any situation, Heavenly Father. Lord, we will not be afraid of the people around us who might mock us, who might speak against the truth. Lord, we will not be afraid of those who have set themselves against you. Truly, they may attack us, Lord God, but it is you that they despise. If they are not in the kingdom of God, if they are not in a saving relationship with Jesus Christ, the natural position of that person, of people of that sort, is to be at enmity with you, Lord God. And so help us to remember that and to reach out to them with the gospel, with love, Lord. Not to compromise in any way, but to be firm speaking truth. Lord, we pray, Lord, that you will rise as you will watch over us and save us. We pray that your participation in this realm, in this time, in this history, will be evident, Lord God, that no one can question you and question your participation in the things that go on around us. Lord, the psalmist David tells us that you struck his enemies on the cheekbone, that you struck them down and you saved him from his enemies. And Lord, we don't ask that you would do physical harm to our enemies, do physical harm to those who oppose us or those who oppose your message, but we do pray that you would kill the old man, that you would strike down the old man and bring them into the gospel, bring them into the kingdom of God by the power of the gospel, we pray, Lord God, that you would bless those who oppose you with a repentant heart, for salvation belongs to the Lord. Salvation belongs to you, Lord Jesus. You are the one who has purchased us by your blood and your blessing is upon us, Lord God. Your blessings of life, your blessings of peace, your blessings of purpose, your blessings of covenant relationship with the great and mighty God. And Lord, we do want to think about this as we conclude our prayer time this morning. We want to think about salvation belongs to the Lord, your blessing is upon your people, and we pray these things in Jesus' name, amen.
