We know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. But what happens when our circumstances don’t match that?

Hi friends, I'm here to give you your daily devotional. So today I wanted to talk about one of my favorite verses. This has been my life first since I was a little girl and that particular verse is Romans 8 28 and we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him and are called according to his purposes. The reason I think that this verse is so impactful for me is just being able to have the insight and knowledge and hope that despite what circumstances I go through that God can work all things for good. Now this is a really debated Bible verse and especially in the world in which we live today people really question why do bad things happen to good people and I think a key essential of this Bible verse is not that God will work all things together for our good and helping us to become more Christ-like but I think really this emphasis of understanding that that Bible verse and many verses in the scriptures don't say that we have to be thankful for the circumstances, right? We can think about that scripture that talks about you know rejoicing in all circumstances and giving thanks in all circumstances but it doesn't say that we're rejoicing or being thankful for necessarily those things. It's rejoicing in or amidst them and so obviously as a lover of words and a writer and a teacher I love reminding myself that even when we talk about Romans 8 28 and we know that in all things it says in all things not for all things and so today I just want to encourage you to think about the ways in which God is moving in your life and the ways in which that you know he has put particular pieces together. I'm not saying that I can't explain why bad things happen to good people or that those things won't happen just because you're Christian because that certainly wouldn't be true. As someone who writes about faith and mental health bad things happen all the time even beyond the realm of mental health like that's just a fallen world in which we live and while God is in control of all things and has power over all things we as human beings have free will and we are the ones that have messed up this world and so one thing that we've been talking about and my husband Ben and I's small group that we attend we've been talking about kind of this essential verse of Romans 8 28 and where we see God working in our lives and how we've seen him working in multiple different levels not just relationally or in the local world but even just globally and so for example one thing that I didn't understand when I was going through it was during college I actually had to go five years which was kind of weird I took over 30 credits every single semester and even though I did that this school I was attending did not have the program that I thought I wanted to major in and so I was in the process of transferring schools all this crazy stuff the day before I was supposed to leave like my transcripts were already sent and everything a professor came to me he's like Amber don't leave like we have this program I did become the first person to graduate from that program I stayed at the college and if I wouldn't have went five years I never would have met my husband because he's younger than me and so my fifth year was when I actually met him and so I say that just to share with you that God is always working all things together for the good of those who love him and are called according to his purpose and I want to encourage you that just take an analyzation of your life and really look at how is God moving what are things that he's brought me through that I didn't understand when I was going through them then but I understand them now and how can I rejoice and be blessed in this moment and thankful not necessarily for all the things that happen but in all things so I pray that that encourages you today and I hope you have a wonderful day
