How might your life change if you took your thoughts captive and made them obedient to Christ?

The other day I was driving and listening to the radio and Tim Tebow was on and he shared a statistic that was pretty shocking to me. He said that 12% of our daily thoughts are spent in some form of comparison which is pretty remarkable and there's a study that goes to show that if you average that out we have about 60,000 thoughts a day which means 7,200 thoughts a day on average we're spending in comparison. They even went on to say that even if you're sleeping eight hours a day an hour and 52 minutes of your day is spent in comparison to others. That is a wild statistic especially if we know the quote that you know comparison is the thief of joy. I don't think any of us would say you know what I'm going to sit for an hour and 52 minutes and just let someone take my joy. We wouldn't do that but we don't realize that we're actually doing that throughout the day as that time stacks up and we know that that depletes our energy, it depletes our joy, it takes a lot out of us to compare ourselves to other people and in second Corinthians chapter 10 verse 5 we read how we're encouraged to take our thoughts captive and make them obedient to Christ and I want to ask you this question today. What would change for you if that 12% of your thoughts, that 12% of your time went from being in comparison to being obedient to Christ? What if that was 12% more praise? What if that was 12% more gratitude? What if that was 12% more innovation or creativity? What if that was 12% more growth and personal development? What would change in your life if we allowed ourselves to take our thoughts captive, get out of the headspace of comparison and make our thoughts obedient to Christ and the crazy thing is that's just comparison right? We have thoughts about everything else right but 12% of that is going to comparison and so I want to encourage you today that if you find yourself in a moment of comparison where you see that you're comparing your life to someone else's or you wish your life was a different way, notice that, notice that tendency to compare and give yourself some grace as well right? It's a natural thing for us to do to want to compare so give yourself some grace but also sit with that and say you know what God I'm going to take this thought captive and make it obedient to you. What does that look like for me right now? How can I take this thought and allow you to change it into a form of obedience that is empowering rather than depleting and so I want to encourage you with that today. Let us take our thoughts captive and make them obedient.
