Maybe we should think of Election Day differently…

Hey friends, today is November 7th, Election Day in Ohio, and I want to take a moment just to pause. I'm not going to get deep into election things. Believe me, we'll talk about that in a second, but we've been talking about love in this series. You can see the previous posts, and this is a really tangible example of what it might look like to love people in our lives. Most often, when we think of elections and voting, we do not think of love at all. But I have heard it referred to in one conversation, I wish I could remember where, it might have been a podcast I was listening to, but referred to voting and elections and being involved in government as a form of neighbor love, loving the people around us, loving our community. And I love this idea. I love that this is what it ought to be. We have had in my little town, Chillicothe, Ohio, we've had months of lawn signs and billboards and mailers coming in. It's been, for whatever reason, a more engaged election by people who want to run for local office. And my question, as I've looked at these people who are running, do they love our city? Do they have the best interests of our people in mind? I may not actually know where they stand in their faith, but is their heart more bent towards love for their neighbor and for their city than otherwise? I'm not going to tell you how to vote. I am going to get out there today because I want to love my neighbors by caring about the policies and the laws that get instituted in our town and caring about the people who enact those laws. So I know a lot of times there's a lot of feelings about voting, apathy, frustration, anger, rage maybe. Maybe you hear a lot about voting and elections and political issues, but political issues aside, maybe this day ought to be about loving our neighbor. Consider this, pray about this, and bless you, friends.
