Hello and welcome to Thinking About the Bible and this current series, Thinking About Salvation. Scripture says that there is none righteous, none of us are righteous. We talked about the fact that we're all sinners and the next logical conclusion of that according to Romans 6 23, for the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. So the wages of sin is death. In other words our sinful behavior that sin nature has coming to it you might say we have coming to us it's justifiable to say that we should die for that sin. We think well boy I've never done anything worthy of death how can I possibly be willing to accept this that the wages of sin is death. Any sin might be the question and the answer is yes that any sin brings us to a point where we have offended the Most High God and without forgiveness without repentance the wage or the outcome of that is death. And again if we go back to the very nature of humanity we are in rebellion against God just from the fact that we are part of the human race and without the saving action of Jesus Christ we remain in that position of rebellion against God. But the wages of sin is death again we must acknowledge this if we want to be saved by grace if we want to be saved by grace in Jesus Christ one of the things we have to do is acknowledge that we are sinners and we are worthy of punishment. Now that's hard this is this some folks will say okay I can believe that God's who he says he is I believe that we are his creation I believe we have a responsibility to serve him and worship him I believe that humanity is in rebellion against God but boy when you start saying that the wages of sin is our death and that I deserve death for shoplifting when I was 12 years old or whatever that I that's this is a sticking point for a lot of folks. But all I can say is we have to get past this that if we want to find the salvation in Jesus Christ if we want to be born again we have got to accept the fact that we have sinned and that the wages of that sin is death. Now we're gonna we're gonna stop right there because that's what I want you to think about today just whether you're a believer or not you need to every once in a while as a believer stop and say thank you Lord that you have saved me from my sin because my sin is heinous it is something that God finds horrible and the wage of any sin is death so I want to leave you with that that it's not a very pleasant thought perhaps but it's something we need to think about as we think about salvation and then we'll talk about in the next episode we'll talk about the second part of this verse that the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord so thinking about salvation think about how the Lord has saved you from sin and we'll come back and continue this discussion next time thanks for being here
