Thinking about salvation. The Bible says that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Last episode we touched on the idea that every person is in rebellion against God by their nature, by the fact that they are part of this this covenant family of Adam, that you are part of the Adamic race and until Jesus Christ pulls you out of that, your natural state, our natural state as human beings is to be in rebellion against God. But all of us have sinned. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, it says in Romans 3 23. And that's one of the things that we need to acknowledge, that yes I'm a sinner. I am a sinner and I have offended God in a variety of ways by my behaviors and I am in need of cleansing, I'm in need of forgiveness and salvation. But let's just look right now at the whole idea of sin. What is sin? Well we talked about the law of God and obviously if you do something like stealing, theft, that's a sin. And if you, according to Jesus, even think thoughts that are inappropriate or sinful, you have sinned. So if you have lust in your heart for a woman that's not your wife, or if you have covetousness, or if you hate your neighbor or whatever, those things are sins. And some folks might say, well you know, okay, I can see that. But what about the baby just born? They're sinless, aren't they? Well no, then we go back to this idea of the nature. The nature of the human person is sinful because each of us is born into the Adamic line and born into the Adamic family. And so we are naturally, by nature, sinful creatures. Now that's not how God created us, but again what happened was Adam and Eve sinned and pulled all of humanity into that state of rebellion against God. So the next thing we need to understand here is we talk about God, believing he is who he says he is, believing we are his creation, believing that we have a duty to serve God, and believing that we are in rebellion. We also acknowledge that we are sinners. We have sinned and we need to be forgiven for that sin. We need to be cleansed of that sin. And we'll pick it up from there in our next episode as we are thinking about salvation.
