Welcome back to thinking about the Bible and thinking about salvation and you might be wondering well wait a minute doesn't everybody want to have a relationship with God and the answer of course is no. What most folks want is a God of their own choosing a God of their own making and that goes again back to the beginning when we see that Adam and Eve their sin was to decide they wanted to decide for themselves what was right and what was wrong and and there was a a consequence that the humanity experience and one of them of course was as we read there in the scripture was the cursing of the ground cursing of the earth and the labor that would now be involved in producing sustenance and so forth but the Bible also teaches throughout scripture that one of the other problems is that our very nature was distorted and Paul talks about this in his epistles how the need to be a new creation as we already mentioned but how there's a putting off of the old and the putting on of the new and that the old nature must be done away with and so humanity every man woman and child at this point without saving knowledge of Jesus Christ without a relationship with Jesus Christ has as the default position I suppose you could say rebellion against God and the the unwillingness to submit kind of a shaking a fist at God and we already read from Romans how Paul says it that every human being knows the truth it it's the default position that needs to be changed you see so that all took place because Adam as the federal head is a term you may have heard before as the covenant head is the better term brought all of humanity into this war this rebellion against God it'd be kind of like if the United States if the president of the United States declared war on another country you're a citizen as a citizen of this nation you may not be in agreement with that but because you're a citizen of the United States of America you are also at war with whatever country this might be and that's not a perfect analogy but it does give us an idea of what actually happened and why all of humanity is in rebellion against God and just like that I get not exactly but the Bible says that Jesus Christ is the last Adam the Eschaton Adam and so when he makes things right we can look to him as our covenant head and have a right relationship with God in Jesus Christ which of course will develop that more as we go along but at this point we need to understand that God is who he says he is that we must accept that that the God of the Bible is truly the only God and he truly exists and we must accept the fact that we are his creation and we have a responsibility to worship him to honor him we must also accept the fact that we are naturally in rebellion against him and unless there is a change made in our nature unless that old nature is done away with by the power of the Holy Spirit and a new nature of Jesus Christ put in his place we cannot have right relationship with God so we'll continue to cover this in the next episodes thanks for being here and continue to be thinking about salvation
