Welcome back to Thinking About the Bible and we're starting a new series Thinking About Salvation. The fact is this is the most important thing I could talk to you about and I thought perhaps I would do this at the beginning but I decided to go ahead and wait till a little bit later in the series or in the program but Thinking About Salvation. So what is it that needs to take place in order for us to be saved from our sins, in order for us to be saved from hell? And I will say this later on toward the end actually of the series. I'll be talking about the comprehensive nature of salvation because it's more than just being saved from hell. It's more than just a free pass you might say out of here. I've talked to a lot of folks over the years who think that because they signed a card at a crusade or they raised her hand at a crusade or they repeated a prayer that they are saved and they don't have to worry and they've since then in some of these cases have lived exactly how they wanted to from that day forward. And we'll talk about all the different aspects of how our behavior is connected to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. We're never going to save ourselves. That's not what I'm talking about. It's never a matter of work salvation, never a matter of doing something or being good enough to make ourselves good enough for God. We cannot absolutely cannot do that. But once we have come to this relationship in Jesus Christ there's a certain behaviors that that should follow. But let's let's go back to the beginning. And the beginning of this whole discussion has to be in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. And that is the opening statement of the scripture. It makes the assumption that God does in fact exist. And throughout the Bible there's never the attempt to convince anyone that God exists. The assumption is always there in the scripture that Yahweh is in fact who he says he is. He has in fact done exactly what he has said he has done. He is the creator of everything. And the truth is no person has any excuse. Granted it is only by the power of the Holy Spirit that a human being comes to accept this truth. And without that transforming power of the Holy Spirit the natural state of a human being is it is to be in rebellion against God. Now here's what Paul says in Romans chapter 1 verse 18 for the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth and unrighteousness because what may be known of God is manifest in them for God has shown it to them for since the creation of the world his invisible attributes are clearly seen being understood by the things that are made even his eternal power and Godhead so that they are without excuse. And so there's there's no excuse. Every human being knows deep down inside knows by looking at the world around them that God exists and he is who he says he is. That is something that's actually intrinsic to the human existence. That's something that's actually part of who we are as the image of God and it has to be held down in unrighteousness. It has to be rebelled against actively rebelled against. So starting point you must believe that God is who he says he is and of course that he exists but you must believe that Yahweh God Almighty God is the creator and the one who has made everything controls everything he is the God of the Bible just as the scripture teaches us. We'll come back to that develop that a little bit more as we continue this series thinking about salvation. We'll see you next time.
