In probably one of the best courtroom movies of all time, no, not Legally Blonde. I'm talking about A Few Good Men, came out mid-90s. Tom Cruise is actually a Navy lawyer and he's trying to get this confession from a colonel. And he delivers this really famous line, he says, I want the truth. And the colonel, played by Jack Nicholson, says, you can't handle the truth. And the scene is amazing. The movie holds up. You should go see it. But I think it's, it begs an important question for us. Do we want the truth? The New Living translation says it this way, love rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Do we rejoice when the truth wins out? Paul puts this phrase at the end of the 10 anti-loves that we've talked about. And I think this should be a self-reflective moment, right? We should be walking through this and thinking, do I boast? Am I prideful? Do I envy others? We should go through, do I rejoice at wrongdoing or injustice? Should I? Is that me, right? And then he says, rejoices when the truth wins out. Because I think before we get to rejoicing at the truth, we have to be in a place of humility to be able to do that well. We have to be patient and we need to be kind. Rejoicing with the truth is encapsulated in all of these other things that love is. It cannot be isolated from that. And this happens so much in the world around us today. Do not let truth be something that you wield like a sword. It has to be encapsulated in love. Paul says in Ephesians, he says, speaking the truth in love. He puts these together again. I hope that when the truth wins out, you rejoice. But that rejoicing is wrapped up in patience and kindness and not pride or envy or boasting or resentment. Can you handle the truth in your own life? Can you rejoice when the truth hits home and begins to cause some movement? What truth has God been speaking to you that you need to listen to today? What is that? Spend some time in prayer. Take it to him. Be open to it. Rejoice when the truth wins out in your life and when it wins out in someone else's life. Peace.
