Welcome to thinking about the Bible and we're thinking about God's law and we are at the sixth commandment Exodus 20 13 you shall not murder very straightforward and I think the vast majority of us of course don't have to worry about that we've never killed anyone we're not going to get into the discussion about times when the taking of human life might be justified whether it be for punishment of a capital crime or in time of war or whatever we don't have time to talk about all that but we also need to realize that it's not just the physical taking of life that is in view here now in that time when it was given that was the primary aspect but aspect of the of the command but even then as we look through the case law it was prohibited to hate your brother in your heart and to wish ill for him Jesus went further than that and said that if you are angry if you hate your brother you're you're violating this law against murder and then he goes on to say whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger the judgment whoever says to his brother Raqqa shall be in danger of the council but whoever says you fool shall be in danger of hellfire so obviously you shall not murder is more than simply not taking a human life without cause without reason and in keeping with with the attempt to make these videos around the three-minute mark I'm not going to get into a whole lot of detail there except to encourage you to think about those people in your life that you have a hard time loving that you have a hard time wishing the best for John says in his epistles that how can you say you love God if you whom you haven't seen if you hate your brother whom you have seen and I think all too often we give ourselves the benefit of the doubt we cut a lot of slack for ourselves and and there are people in our lives that we don't like now I'm not saying you have to get along with everyone in the sense that you have to spend time with them but I will say you need to get along in the sense that you don't mistreat people you don't treat them ill you don't wish ill for them and you don't speak ill of them you don't show hate toward them because that's really what hate is it's not it's not you know raging at them it says it can be a matter of indifference or it can be a matter of mistreating somebody either emotionally or physically or whatever but but I would encourage you as we think about God's law to think about those people in your life that you fail to love as you ought to ask the Lord to forgive you and to ask him to give you a love for them not that you can have warm fuzzy feelings about them all the time but that you can discover ways to express to them the love of Jesus Christ so think about God's law think about how you can show the opposite of murder and instead show life show love show concern to people and be Christlike in that in that approach so I'll see you again tomorrow as we continue in this series thinking about God's law
