Hello and welcome to thinking about the Bible as we continue thinking about God's law and now we're at the commandment remember the Sabbath to keep it holy and the reason for this in the Bible is that God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh day and the commandment has some detail about how the follower of Yahweh is supposed to do no work their sons or daughters or slaves no one is supposed to do any work on the Sabbath day to honor that day that God rested as well and so there's a there's a direct tie in that as those who emulate God as those who are made in the image of God we take that day off or take us one day out of seven off and God has blessed that day and made it holy now the question is are we as Christians are those in Jesus Christ are we still supposed to be taking off a number one the Sabbath as in the seventh day as in Saturday or number two are we supposed to worry about this at all and the answer to the question the second question is yes we should be concerned about it but the Sabbath has been relocated and some folks say well that can't be true I mean there's nothing in the Bible that says that that's not that's not the case in Hebrews it says it with the changing of the priesthood it's a changing of the law and Jesus Christ has come as the great high priest the final priest the final sacrifice there's has been definitely a change in the law we don't we don't do the same things that were done under the Old Testament the old mosaic dispensation mosaic ritual moreover we see in the New Testament that it was on the Lord's Day that the customary Christian worship took place and and that would be what we would might call the eighth day and well the reason I say that is because in the Old Testament the eighth day has significance the eighth day was when a person or a young baby boy was was circumcised and that represented the cutting away of the death of the world the contamination of the world and the in a sense the sacrifice of the blood but the shedding of blood to be brought under this covenant relationship with Yahweh also is the eighth day when a leper was considered cleansed after going through a particular set of ritual so the eighth day and there's other that there were other cleansings for the house and so forth that the eighth day was the significant time when the cleansing and the renewal you might say the rebirth was actually counted that's when there was a state when it happened so so the eighth day or what we would call Sunday of course the seven days plus one would be the time when we worship the Lord Jesus Christ the Lord God in Jesus Christ but Paul also says that one day is important to one man and another day to another and so each should follow their own conscience on that I think Paul was speaking primarily at that point about feast times more than the the weekly worship but for the Christian we still need to take that day off to worship the Lord God and to get the rest that we need that we might be ready for another day's work another week's work ahead of us so what I want you to think about this this session or this teaching is how can you make that Sabbath day the the eighth day the Sunday special in your life as you bring that time of worship to God and to rest from your customary work we'll be back again tomorrow we'll see you later
