Thinking about the Bible. Good morning, we're thinking about love as we think about the Bible and today we are on 1 Corinthians 5 excuse me 13 verse 5 D yesterday we talked about not being irritable today love keeps no record of being wrong now boy I tell you this can be a this is a big deal I've been a pastor for a long time and talked a lot of folks how this is can be very damaging in a relationship my wife and I as we counsel other couples this is something that's very common it's not just in a marriage relationship it can be in any relationship children with their parents to keep record of wrong in other words oh you know what what you did back then is such-and-such and it's causing this kind of trouble today now there might be some truth to the fact that our there is truth obviously that our past does affect our present and future in many ways we would wish that it didn't but if we're going to love someone we're not going to use that past we're not going to use the record of wrongs in our effort to get what we want from a person or in our effort to have one up on them in an argument or whatever so if you love someone you're probably fully aware of all their past wrongs at least most of them are a lot of them but you don't bring those up when you are at any time oftentimes it's going to be when you're an argument or something but at any time now one thing I want to mention here is forgiveness which is kind of a little bit off the track here but it pertains because the best definition of forgiveness that I've ever heard is not bringing it up not bringing up somebody's wrongs not to them and not yourself and that's what's the most important is to ourselves because sometimes we'll just stew on our loved ones record of doing wrong but we're not supposed to keep record of being wronged someone's done something to offend us we're supposed to set that aside we're not supposed to think about it and so this idea of forgiving and forgetting is actually that's a good adage because if you don't bring it up to yourself that means you don't think about it if you don't bring it up to the other person you're not thinking about it you've forgotten it that's really how it should be just like the Lord does for us that he casts our sins away that as far as the East is from the West we are separated from that that sin that we've committed because we are forgiven in our Lord Jesus Christ so as we think about love and as we think about the Bible again let's think about what the Lord Jesus has done for us he doesn't keep a record of wrongs he didn't keep a record of being wronged all of our sin is actually sin against the Lord but he doesn't keep a record of that instead he wipes the slate clean and if we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness and we should have the same kind of attitude toward those that we are showing love to we do not keep a record of wrongs we don't bring them up to ourselves don't bring them up to the to others we forgive we forget that's how we love thanks for spending some time with me this morning and I will see you again tomorrow as we continue to think about the Bible and think about love
