Good morning, everybody. Today I want to do something a little bit different. I want to tell you something about your pastor that you may or may not know, especially if I happen to be your pastor. Sometimes we don't know what to say. Sometimes the words escape us. This morning I got a phone call from a good friend whose child may be dealing with cancer. And in that moment, when you're just listening to the pain of a parent who is contemplating possibly the worst news a parent can get about their child as a father of six kids, I can't even imagine that. The reality is there's no Bible verse that's going to fix it. There's no special prayer that's going to fix it. There's no book on my bookshelf that I can read a passage from that's going to make it all make sense. All these degrees and certificates I've got behind on the wall are wonderful. They're good. I'm thankful for them. But they don't always give you the words to say. And you know what? That's okay. It's okay sometimes to not know exactly what to say. It's more important just to be. Just to be with that person. Say I'm sorry. Say it doesn't make sense to me either. None of these degrees or books can help it make it make sense. But I love you. I'm going to go through it with you. And even though I can't tell you what the plan is, the one thing that the degrees and the books in the book, Scripture, tells us that God has a plan. Especially in our pain, He has a plan. So I want to encourage you today, if you get the opportunity to interact with somebody who's in pain, they are hurting, they are really going through some things. Please don't feel like you have to say something. Because sometimes we can say the wrong thing. We can say those little cliched things that we hear all the time. And especially don't say I know how you feel if you don't know how they feel. Because it's not true. You don't know how they feel. Just be. Be with that person. I prayed for him over the phone and hopefully, prayerfully that gave me some comfort. But the main thing is, if you deal with somebody today who's in a position like that, just be with them. Just tell them you love them. You're going to go through it with them. And pray for them in the moment. Listen, God bless.
