Do not live of the flesh, live by the Spirit. Being led by the Spirit of God makes you a child of Him.

Well, good morning everybody. Welcome to the sanctuary here at First Baptist Leeds. This morning I'm going to read Romans 8 verses 12 through 14. So then, brethren, we are under obligation, and we'll go over that word in a minute, obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you are living according to the flesh, you must die. That means put it away, put those things away. But if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God. If you remember back when we looked at verses 9 and 10, we saw that because of the freedom that we have in Christ through what he did for us on the cross, he now gives us his Spirit to live within us, to guide us, to help us along our day, make wise decisions, to see how we can love and serve other people. And what Paul is saying in verses 12 through 14 is because we have the Holy Spirit within us, we are now obligated to live by that, to put away the things of the flesh, to put away the stuff that used to burden us and stress us and give us anxiety in this world because we didn't know the love and hope of Christ, that we now have a wonderful obligation, a holy obligation, a privileged obligation. Now through the power of the Holy Spirit that lives within us because of what Christ did on the cross, we can put those things away and today we can walk by the Spirit of God because what did he say in verse 14? Because you are a child of God, specifically a son of God. So I want to encourage you today, think through, pray through how you can live by the Spirit, how you can put off the old things, maybe an old way of thinking, maybe old habits, old actions, whatever it may be for you in your context, and how can you put those things away today and how can you be led by the Spirit to show the world Jesus and to love and serve other people like Jesus did for you on the cross. Listen, God bless. I hope you have a great day. If there's anything that we can do for you, if there's any way that I can pray for you, make sure to put it in the comments. We're going to be reading through those and praying through those. So God bless. Have a great day today.
