Your prayers are powerful and effective. If I'm being honest, I really used to struggle with believing that to be true. In James 5 16 we read that the prayers of a righteous person are powerful and effective and I used to view this passage as being exclusively for a righteous person, meaning that if I had a need in my life, if I wanted to see breakthrough in a certain area, that I had to have a preacher or a pastor pray for me because they were a righteous person. And don't get me wrong, we absolutely need to have preachers and pastors and people in our life that we trust to pray with us and to pray for us. But this passage isn't exclusively for pastors. We read in 2nd Corinthians 5 verse 21 that God made Him, Jesus, who had no sin, to be sin for us so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God in Christ. It's through Jesus, through what He did on the cross, taking our sin, our shame, our punishment, taking our death, through Him we are declared righteous. And the prayers of a righteous person are powerful, are effective, and we have authority to pray in the name of Jesus. It's not some tagline we add to the end of our prayers because of tradition. It's because of the power in declaring and proclaiming the name of Jesus over our lives. It is through Jesus we're declared righteous and so your prayers are powerful, they are effective. So pray with that understanding today and watch God move over your life and over the lives of those around you.
