Ashes to Beauty, Day 2. The beans, or the background. We're continuing to look at Jesus' early ministry today, moving to Capernaum today, where Jesus meets a centurion. A centurion was a Roman military officer typically in charge of 100 or more soldiers. The verse, Matthew chapter 8, verses 5 through 8. When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him asking for help. Lord, he said, my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly. Jesus said to him, shall I come and heal him? The centurion replied, Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof, but just say the word and my servant will be healed. The steam. What does this mean to me and how can I apply it to my life today? I've heard so many friends and family members say they feel guilty asking for certain prayers. Our old church was a small church, so they're able to have this part of their service called Prayers for the People. During this time, anyone can raise their hand and offer up prayer requests, which get put on a prayer list and then sent out for the week. While I was a member there, I too would sometimes hear a particularly sad or intense prayer request from someone else and then feel like mine was unworthy to share out loud. Have you ever thought things like, God's dealing with disease, hunger, war. He doesn't have time for my insignificant request. What I've come to realize is that this mindset places human limitations on God. Yes, there will always be someone with greater needs than yours, more urgent matters. But God's not like a hospital that has to prioritize patients one at a time. Your needs, no matter how small, are extremely important to Him. Even though this centurion felt undeserving, he believed Jesus could perform the miracle he was asking for. So when we're having an ashy moment, you know, not anything catastrophic, but just a crummy part of our day, we shouldn't ever feel guilty about coming to God with our requests. Instead, like this centurion who had faith in an all-powerful, all-knowing God, we should boldly request whatever we need from Jesus. Trust in your Heavenly Father today. Whatever issues you are facing, whatever trials or discomforts, lay them at Jesus' feet. Be bold and ask for whatever it is, and then believe that Jesus cares enough about you to answer.
