Embracing His Peace, Day 10. The Beams, or the Background. Isaiah was a prophet who shared God's messages with his people during the Old Testament days. In today's portion of Isaiah, he is sharing how the Lord freely offers everything necessary to give his people an abundant life. The verse, Isaiah 55, verses 10 through 12. As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth. It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace. The mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands. The Steam. What does this mean to me and how can I apply it to my life today? When I was a teacher, I would begin the first day of school with a toothpaste experiment. I would gather my whole class in a circle on the floor and then squeeze an entire tube of toothpaste out onto a piece of paper. The kids loved to watch it ooze out and they laughed hysterically. After all the toothpaste was emptied, I would then ask for a volunteer to come and see if they could get the toothpaste back into the tube. After a few kids tried, we quickly discovered that it was impossible. The point of the lesson was, just like it's impossible to get the toothpaste back in the tube once it's out, your words, once spoken, can never be taken back. As I read today's verse, I immediately thought of this lesson with my children and thought about how many times I have wished I could take my words back. However, God has never uttered any words that were not true. But still, we question His words. We question His goodness all the time. I was struck by these beautiful words from Solomon, comparing the rain that falls to His powerful words, just as the rain falls from the sky to give life to the earth. So His words are shared to give life to our souls. That is how we know joy. His words are how we are led forth in peace, no matter the circumstances we find ourselves in. Trust in the power of His word today.
