EMBRACING HIS PEACE, DAY 9 The Beans, or the Background King Solomon wrote a majority of the Book of Proverbs, wise words that still ring true to us living today. The verse, Proverbs chapter 3, verses 1-6 My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity. Let love and faithfulness never leave you, bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight. What does this mean to me and how can I apply it to my life today? I went through a training at church where the leader explained how our first experiences of God can be linked to our earthly father. The presenter went on to share that his dad was a wonderful man but had very little interest in children. He recalled how he felt boring to his dad, insignificant and not worthy of his dad's time or attention. This translated to God, making him feel insignificant and unworthy of God's time and attention. This really resonated with me. No matter if you had the perfect childhood, with an amazing set of parents, or didn't even know your biological father, we all judge God based on earthly standards. That is a huge reason why so many of us struggle with trusting God. No matter who you are, somewhere along the line, you have trusted someone that let you down. It might not necessarily be your parents or family members, but it could have been a friend, a teacher, or a colleague even. Our human minds are constantly trying to understand God, yet we only have our limited earthly framework with which to understand him. So trusting God is hard sometimes. But if we ever want to truly live life in his peace, we're really going to have to work at learning how to fully trust in him. And there is no better way to trust someone than to really spend time getting to know them. As you get to know Jesus intimately, you'll be amazed at how easy it is to discern his will for your life. As you begin to make changes, you'll also discover how much easier it is to trust, and how his ways are always better than our own.
